Exposure trip to Cambodia

Metta team conducted an exposure trip on social enterprise programme to CEDAC, Cambodia during 23 – 25 October 2017. CEDAC is a Cambodian NGO and has been working to support small-holder farmers in Cambodia to better access to market for their products especially organic agriculture produce. The exposure visit aims to obtain knowledge and learn about organic social enterprise programme, the concepts of enterprise development, basic knowledge on social enterprise, farmer entrepreneurship and value chain. The team visited organic market centre, organic rice and vegetable producer groups and cooperative rice mill.
Metta plans to establish social enterprise programme to support small-holder farmers to have better access to market for their products especially naturally grown agricultural products. Metta believes that if it supports the whole value chain of commodities produced and not just on the production side the social enterprise programme could have a greater impact on increasing income and reducing poverty of small holders in rural Myanmar. The programme aims to raise the economic value of agricultural and livelihood products, and ensure increases in farm incomes by engaging in social enterprises which integrates production, processing and marketing to produce value-added goods and services. Metta aspires that the social entrepreneurship programme will also contribute to the financial sustainability of the organisation.
