Senior Management Team (SMT)

The Senior Management Team (SMT) encompasses Head Office Management Team, the Head Office Programme Coordinators, National Financial Controller and the Regional Branch Office Coordinators. The SMT is responsible for the day-to-day organisational matters related to the management and the implementation of the planned project activities, financial management and human resource management. The SMT also play a key role in supporting the Board to formulate organisational polices, strategy, plans for the organisation. The SMT is chaired by the Executive Director of Metta. SMT meeting is held every three month.

Senior Management Team is directly accountable the Metta Board, donors, partners, staff and local communities. SMT is responsible for

  • ensuring community participation in all levels of projects and programmes,
  • ensuring vulnerable groups are fully involved in our programmes – women, orphans, differently-abled, chronically ill, etc,
  • collaborating with existing groups and organisations
  • ensuring that local cultures, traditions and resources are recognised.

SMT are always expected to live up to Metta aspirations and values.

    Gum Sha Awng (Mr)

    Executive Director
    Gum Sha Awng is Executive Director. He joined Metta in 2000 as Farmer Field School (FFS) facilitator in Myitkyina, Kachin State. He later became Programme Coordinator for upland farming and managed training centres: Naung Kham centre in Sourthern Shan State in 2003 and Sin Gawng centre in Ayeyawaddy region in 2006.

    He graduated in 2002 from University of Mandalay with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A). He holds a Post Graduate Diploma and Master of Arts (M.A) in Development Studies from Development Studies Centre, Kimmage Manor, Dublin, Ireland. He is a Kachin Christian and a native of Kutkai from Northern Shan State.

    The Executive Director is the key management leaders of foundation and guides the organisation’s mission as defined by board. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programmes and strategic plan of the foundation. The Executive Director is also responsible for providing leadership, purpose and direction for staff of the organisaiton and for ensuring that the organisation carries out its operations in accordance with the organisation’s policies and plan defined by the Board. Other key duties include fundraising and community outreach. The Executive Director needs to work with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programmes, strategic planning and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board.

    Ding Rin Naw Ja (Mr)

    Competence Centre Coordinator
    Ding Rin Naw Ja is Competence Centre Coordinator (head of Finance, Human Resources & IT). He has been working with Metta since 2001. Over the course of twenty years, he has played various roles that includes Programme Coordinator of various programmes, Branch Programme Manager and Manager of Centre for Action Research and Demonstration (CARD) in Kachin State, before moving to the Head Office in 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Development Studies from Development Studies Centre, Kimmage Manor, Dublin, Ireland and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from European International University, Paris, France. He is a Kachin Christian from Kachin State.

    Competence Centre Coordinator has overall responsibilities to make sure the organisation have effective policies and practices in Finance, Human Resources & IT management and development; he provides guidance and control on strategic Financial, Human Resources & IT matters as well as planning, managing, reporting on and controlling organisation funds; he ensures high levels of administration, support on organisation affairs and governance within the organisation; and warrants the organisation have the right people, working environment, equipment, systems and information to carry out our work.

    Saw Min Naing (Mr)

    Organisational Relations Coordinator
    Saw Min Naing is Organisational Relations Coordinator. A co-founder of Metta, he started as Project Manager in his native Loilem in Southern Shan State in 1999. A Kayin Christian, he holds a Bachelor degree in Veterinary Science at Yezin Agriculture University and Master of Development Studies at Development Studies Centre, Kimmage Manor, Dublin, Ireland.

    Organisational Relations Coordinator’s main responsibility is coordinating with Government departments, regional authorities and partners to develop effective communication, coordination and partnerships.

    San Wai (Ms)

    National  Programme Coordinator
    San Wai is National Programme Coordinator. She has been working with Metta since 2006 at Naung Kham Training Centre. She holds a Bachelor of Agriculture Science (B.Agri.Sc) at Yezin Agriculture University and a Master of Arts (M.A) in Development Studies at Kimmage Development Studies, Kimmage Manor, Dublin, Ireland. She is a PaO Buddhist from Southern Shan State.

    Nyi Nyi Zaw (Mr)

    National Financial Controller
    Nyi Nyi Zaw is National Financial Controller. He joined Metta in 2001 as Internal Auditor. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate from Myanmar Institute of Certified Public Accountant. He is a Bamar Buddhist and native of Bago Region.

    Ye Lynn Htoon(Mr)

    Programme Coordinator – Head Office
    Ye Lynn Htoon is Programme Coordinator at Head Office. He has been working with Metta since 2003. Before taking Programme Coordinator at Head office, he has played in various role that includes IT Manager and Branch Office Coordinator. He is a Karen Christian from Yangon Region.

    Hkun Du (Mr)

    Branch Office Coordinator – Myitkyina
    Hkun Du is Branch Office Coordinator of Myitkyina Branch Office in Kachin State. He joined Metta in 2006 as a Project Officer. Before taking Branch Office Coordinator he has played in various role that includes Project Officer, Project Coordinator, Training Centre Manager and Branch Programme Coordinator. He is a high school graduate and diploma of Special Course on General Agriculture, Allahabad Agriculture Institute, India. He is a Kachin Christian from Kachin State.

    Hawng Dau (Mr)

    Branch Office Coordinator – Lashio
    Hawng Dau is Branch Office Coordinator of Lashio Branch Office in Northern Shan State. He joined Metta in 2007 as Area Coordinator for Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation to Ex-poppy Farmers (PRRO) programme. Before taking Branch Office Coordinator he has played in various role that includes Community Facilitator, Area Coordinator, Project Coordinator and Branch Programme Coordinator. He holds a Bachelor of B.A (Eco) at Yadanapon University Mandalay. He is a Kachin Christian from Kutkai, Northern Shan State.

    Khun Wai Lar (Mr)

    Branch Office Coordinator – Taunggyi
    Khun Wai Lar is Branch Office Coordinator of Taunggyi Branch Office in Southern Shan State. He joined Metta as a volunteer in Farmer Field School Training of Trainer in 2004 at Naung Kham Training Centre. He was played various role before taking Branch Office Coordinator include Office Administrator, Data Compiler, M&E Officer and Centre Manger. He holds a Bachelor of B.A (Law) at Taunggyi University. He was complete Awakening Leadership Training programme that joined organised by INEB Institute and Eco-village Transition Asia in Thailand. He is a PaO Buddhist from Nyaung Shwe Township.

    Naw Khu Dol (Ms)

    Programme Coordinator & Coordination Office Coordinator – Loikaw
    Naw Khu Dol is Coordination Office Coordinator of Loikaw Office in Kayah State. She joined Metta in ( 2012) as a community facilitator. Before taking Coordination Office Coordinator, she has played in various role that includes Community Facilitator, Area Coordinator, Assistant Project Coordinator and Project Coordinator. She holds a Bachelor of B.A (Mya) at Yangon University, Yangon. She is a Baptist Christian from Demoso, Kayah State.

    Programme Coordinator & Coordination Office Coordinator – Pathein
    Nwe Ni Soe is Programme Coordinator and Coordination Office Coordinator of Pathein Office in Ayeyarwady Region. She joined Metta in 2019 as a Community Facilitator. Before taking Coordination Office Coordinator, she played in various role that includes Community Facilitator, Seed Farm Supervisor, Training Coordinator, M&E Coordinator, Advocacy & Networking Coordinator and Project Coordinator. She holds a Bachelor of L.L.B (Law) at Pathein University, Ayeyarwaddy and Diploma Agriculture (Agri) at Myaungmya. She is Karen, Buddhist from Thin Gun Kone village, Myaungmya, Ayeyarwady Region.
